I just found this awesome challenge called #5OnMyTBR, hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook that I am super excited to give a try. It occurs every Monday when they post about 5 books on their TBR. This week’s theme is “Hype from the Past.” Here is what’s in my TBR:

1. The Witches of New York, by Ami McKay

• Why I’m excited: This book is next up for my book club (come check our Instagram out!) so I’d better get cracking! This month’s theme is Women Supporting Women, so it already sounds great.
• Already on my Kindle!
• Released in 2014, and has themes such as witchcraft in families and gilded age New York City. Who can beat that?

2. Emma, by Jane Austen

• Why I’m excited: I just saw the new Emma film adaptation, and loved it so much! Autumn de Wilde is a goddess.
• Confession: I am a book hoarder, particularly of gorgeously-bound classics. Emma the Barnes and Noble gold-gilded edition has been sitting on my shelf for years looking pretty.
• Other confession: I tried to finish this book years ago as a girl, and HATED Emma as a character. I am hoping now, with some years past and “wisdom,” I can love this.

3. A Room with a View, by E.M. Forster

• Why I’m excited: Here is another book that is part of a book club I am tuning into (this one sponsored by AFAR / AFAReads) and I am looking forward to having a chance to be “transported” through this book during these homebound times.
• … and of course, I own  great copy of this book that has never been touched since it was bought.
• Also, AFAReads is having a virtual movie night in two days showing the movie adaptation!

4. In the Woods, by Tana French

• Why I’m excited: This has been on my radar for a while – set in my favorite place (Ireland), and with a plot reminiscent of dark fairy tales, it sounds right up my alley. I have just been avoiding it due to the psychological creepy aspect.
• Confession: This may remain on my TBR for longer than I want to think about, because I am an emotional wreck right now and don’t know if being home and reading creepy books is a good idea. But still excited for the future!

5. And lastly… Three Women, by Lisa Taddeo

• Why I’m excited: I received a signed copy of this book as a promo by Simon & Schuster, and I have been excited ever since. their promotional work with the author has been fun to watch and I am looking forward to her viewpoint.
• Confession: This book is not really in my wheelhouse; I don’t often read literary nonfiction. However, the message seems powerful, and the stories as compelling as fiction.

That’s all, folks! I am sitting here, writing this post while watching Jeopardy (Alex Trebek also has tsundoku, guys!!!) and feel very content about laying these books out, like a roadmap of my future reading plan. I hope it does the same for you. Thank you, E., for this opportunity 🙂
