Book Review: Say You’ll Remember Me” by Abby Jimenez

Happy weekend, all! I took a break from my ARC crash course and grabbed Abby Jimenez’s new book Say You’ll Remember Me, first in a new series through Book of the Month. Abby’s books are an automatic buy for me because her writing is just so damn compelling, always. This new series is a little more serious, a little less sexy, and while it is not my favorite, I still flew through it.

From the Publisher:

There might be no such a thing as a perfect guy, but Xavier Rush comes disastrously close. A gorgeous veterinarian giving Greek god vibes—all while cuddling a tiny kitten? Immediately yes. That is until Xavier opens his mouth and proves that even sculpted gods can say the absolute wrong thing. Like, really wrong. Of course, there’s nothing Samantha loves more than proving an asshole wrong…

. . . unless, of course, he can admit he made a mistake. But after one incredible and seemingly endless date—possibly the best in living history—Samantha is forced to admit the truth, that her family is in crisis and any kind of relationship would be impossible. Samantha begs Xavier to forget her. To remember their night together as a perfect moment, as crushing as that may be.

Only no amount of distance or time is nearly enough to forget that something between them. And the only thing better than one single perfect memory is to make a life—and even a love—worth remembering.

My Thoughts:

OK so I loved this like all Abby Jimenez books. And I cried and laughed in equal intervals. But two things took me out of it a bit:

  • This book definitely was less romcom and more women’s fiction/family drama. It was engaging to read and I loved most of the characters, but because of the nature of the long distance, I did not get nearly enough Xavier and Samantha content. I enjoyed Say You’ll Remember Me, but it was not what I was expecting or what this book was marketed as. The amount of heavy emotional toll here way outweighed the cute or sexy.
  • The Gen Z commentary, including all of the TikTok relationship challenges and Rhys references were very excessive. Considering the mains seem closer to young millennial in age and stage of their careers, and considering I think most of the target demographic for these books are closer to millennial than Gen Z, this felt tortured. Don’t get me wrong I love ACOTAR, but this was extra. Disclaimer: I am very much a millennial.

If this were written by any other writer it would probably be a three star from me, but Abby Jimenez is a phenomenal writer and despite myself, I could not put this down. Case in point, I skipped over three books I am halfway done with to start and finish this in 48 hours. Four waves from me! I just hope that the upcoming books in the series are a *little* less serious, but still highly recommend! Grab your copy here.
